Aussie Day Message

BRISBANE: THE coolest thing about growing up in Australia for us was the beautiful weather - that was a big part of our childhood.
We had a big backyard, and a big pool, so we’d always go swimming and have barbecues. Our Dad used to play in a band, so we’d have parties and Dad’s band would be playing. Our childhood was always around music and the sun.

I think as far as Australia goes, we’re far enough away from the rest of the world that we kind of have our own cool thing going on. I don’t think we’re all terribly influenced about what’s going on over the other side of the world. I think it makes us unique - the artists coming out of here are a little more groundbreaking. I think that’s why so many Aussie artists are hitting it big internationally these days.

Everyone used to say if you want to make it you’ve got to move here or there, but I think that’s a thing of the past. We first went to LA to start writing songs five years ago. Once we signed our deal, we ended up moving to LA for a while. But we missed Australia - to stay sane, we’d fly back every few months and get our Aussie fix. We did a lot of touring in 2009 - the States, the UK, Japan, South America, Australia. It was crazy. I guess for us, traveling a lot, we’re always kind of waving the Australian flag around. The Australian people, everyone really just embraces us overseas. They love Aussies.

Everyone seems to have a really good story about someone they’ve met from Australia, or their own experiences from visiting the country. We’re always really proud when we’re traveling and we hear that kind of stuff. We’ve always seen Australia as a land of opportunity. Just the attitude, the general vibe - everyone’s very open here, very friendly.

Obviously it’s a really cool thing we’ve had the opportunity to travel and make music in other parts of the world, but for us, Australia was the No. 1 priority and the No. 1 place in our hearts.
